They are based on knowledge, on many, many years of experience and a true love for our product and for you, our user. We aspire to pass on our knowledge of salt to you, to help you select your salt with care and to simply enjoy your food more. Selecting the right salt for the occasion starts with selecting the right grind. Each grind and shape has different qualities in terms of taste enhancement, experience and connecting food ingredients. Extra ﬁne grinds, for example, are for a more delicate taste enhancement and work best in cooking food ingredients because of their solubility. The dosage of salt also comes precise, if you want to bring out the ﬁnest taste: each grind has its speciﬁc dosing. Therefore, JOZO offers packaging that is tailored for optimal appliance. And it is also our mission to offer everyone the richness of salt. This includes those who are restricted in their salt intake for dietary reasons, as well as those who want to add iodine to their diet. For that reason, we offer several grinds in lower salt and iodised varieties. The JOZO Salt collection is your kitchen companion, giving the essential touch to your meal. Our ancient sources
Our planet offers a vast richness of salt species: from the earth, from the sea and from the mountains – each with speciﬁc characteristics, taste and beneﬁts; each with special needs when it comes to extraction. Salts from different origins, with different grinds and levels of purity. Starting as Royal Dutch Salt Industries (KNZ) in Boekelo, the Netherlands, we first obtained our products by evaporation in open pans. The salt was dissolved in underground salt layers, formed millions of years ago. In 1926, we adopted the far more energy-efficient method of vacuum evaporation. When the Twente-Rijn canal was built in the early ‘30s, we moved our plant to Hengelo, taking advantage of the waterway connections. The discovery of salt in the Northern part of the Netherlands in 1951, and the facilities for loading seagoing ships there, led to the construction of a salt-producing plant in Delfzijl, which came on stream in 1959. Around 1963 we extended our business by starting salt production in Denmark, to serve the Scandinavian markets as well. We still source our natural pristine salt from underground caverns in the Netherlands and Denmark, which were created millions of years ago by the evaporation of ancient seas. We also delve deep below the Himalayan Mountain Range in search of the delicate pink-colored Himalaya Salt. And we get our extra coarse sea salt from the Caribbean island of Bonaire, where ocean salt is harvested from saltpans using ancient techniques.
